Chicken and cashews

This Chicken and Cashews recipe from the Everyday Cooking for Thermomix Families TM5 is so easy to make and is just so yum!

I absolutely love using my Varoma and really want to get more owners cooking with their Varoma more often. This is one dish that will make that happen!

The first step is making the garlic and ginger mixture to coat the chicken. Then you add the rice in the simmering basket into the bowl. Not washing the bowl not only means less clean up but also means a flavoursome rice. 

While you’re cooking the rice in the simmering basket you are steaming the chicken and veggies in the Varoma on top.

Once the chicken is cooked you can make the sauce with 250g of the reserved steaming liquid. So once again those beautiful flavours are being retained :)

The total cooking time for this recipe is 55min and it’s such a great all in one recipe that is made even easier by using the recipe chip. I’m so glad this recipe made it onto the new chip so TM5 owners are no longer missing out on this yummy dish!

Layered Chicken Dinner


The Layered Chicken Dinner from the new Everyday Cooking for Thermomix Families TM5 is a winner!

I had been wanting to make it since I first saw the new cookbook but with a total cooking time of 1 hour and 45 minutes I had to plan ahead.

There isn’t too much prep work to do and you don’t have to wash the bowl after making the chicken rub. I think haven those flavours in the soup really added to the amazing flavour. I didn’t have enough pumpkin so I add 300g of sweet potato and maybe that also really added to the flavour.

While the soup was cooking the chicken was steaming in the Varoma. This took 55 minutes which was plenty of time for me to get my home workout done!


Then it was time to add the carrots and potato around the chicken and steam for 15 minutes. That was enough time for me to have my shower. The chicken was cooked by now and it was time to blend the soup before making the gravy.

This was actually my first time making gravy and it was divine. It did have 2 teaspoons of chicken stock paste in it which added a lot more flavour. And while the gravy was cooking the broccoli and green beans were steaming in the Varoma. I just love layered cooking!

So while this meal has a long total cook time I can guarantee it is definitely worth it and I think it just might be my new favourite Thermomix recipe!

Salmon Veloute


The Salmon Velouté meal is a variation of the Chicken Velouté meal in the Basic Cookbook.

The Velouté meal is an all in one meal made in your Thermomix using the Varoma. You make the soup in the bowl and steam the chicken or salmon in the Varoma with the veggies. 

The zucchini and carrots are peeled tagliatelle style with a vegetable peeler which helps them steam quickly and also adds to the look of the dish.

Then you save some of the soup to make the creamy sauce. The word velouté is French for velvet and perfect describes the sauce.

To make the salmon variation you replace the tarragon with dill and adjust the cooking time. You will find the variation under the tips in the cookbook and you can also access it on the recipe chip.

The velouté meal is a demo menu option and is a great way to really see the Thermomix in action. Contact your consultant to book a demo :)

Lemon Cupcakes with Citrus Syrup

IMG_7015   Lemon cupcakes are not really my thing. I always choose chocolate over citrus flavoured desserts or treats. But these Lemon Cupcakes with Citrus Syrup from the new Everyday Cooking with Thermomix Families TM5 were a treat, even if they didn’t rise as much as they should have ;)

It’s a fairly simple batter but what I love more than that is the fact that you steam them in the Varoma. I hear all the time about people not using their Varoma so what better reason is there than a sweet treat?!


They steam for 22 minutes and then it’s time to make the citrus syrup. Made with sugar, water and lemon juice it’s the perfect chance to use the spatula to juice the lemon. I just love how they thought of everything when they designed the Thermomix!


Once the syrup is made, pour it over puddings and garnish with desiccated coconut and they’re ready to serve :)

Beef stew with Buttermilk dumplings

This recipe for Beef Stew with Buttermilk Dumplings was the perfect meal for today’s rainy weather.

The prep is quick and easy and while the total cook time is 1hour and 40 minutes it is well worth the wait!

The recipe calls for a cheap cut of steak which is great for the hip pocket and because it is slow cooked you don’t notice the difference in quality of meat :)

But the best part of this recipe has to be the buttermilk dumplings. The dough is so simple to mix together and really easy to roll into balls and leave in the Varoma dish and tray. In the last 35min of cooking time the Varoma goes on to steam the dumplings and then dinner is done!

Chorizo and chicken pasta


 I haven’t eaten pasta for awhile but I couldn’t resist making this recipe for Chorizo and Chicken Pasta from the new Everyday Cooking for Thermomix Families TM5 cookbook and recipe chip.

The chorizo is cooked in oil for 6 minutes on the reverse wooden spoon. I honestly would’ve been happy just eating this! It was perfectly cooked and I will definitely make it again when I’m doing an antipasto spread :)

The next step is adding all the veggies which get chopped into perfectly hidden veg for the kiddies!

The chicken cooks on top in the Varoma and then you add the pasta shells for the last ten minutes. This is a great all in one meal that serves 6 (or three very hungry adults!)

Garlic prawns

IMG_6632Garlic prawns have always been a family favourite so I was excited to try the recipe in the new Everyday Cooking for Thermomix Families TM5 cookbook.

The sauce mixture is so simple with garlic, parsley, olive oil, tomatoes, veg stock paste, dry white white and oregano but these flavours all come together amazingly.

I followed the variation tip and doubled the recipe to cook more prawns. So instead of cooking the prawns in the simmering basket I could fit more prawns by using the Varoma.

IMG_6633All of this was done in less than 30 minutes which included the extra 5 min cooking time for the extra prawns.

So not only was this recipe really simple to throw together – the flavours were just amazing :)

Sticky date pudding

The sticky date pudding recipe in the Basic Cookbook is the perfect treat to make on these cold winter nights.

It’s so quick and easy to make with your Thermomix and one of the tips is to make individual steamed puddings instead of baking in a loaf tin.

That’s right, you can make steamed sticky date pudding cupcakes using your Varoma! So if you are one of those people not using your Varoma I’m sure this variation will change that ;)

When making individual steamed puddings make sure you use silicone cupcake moulds and only fill them up half way as they will rise.

Place them into the Varoma dish and onto the tray. I managed to fit in 18 moulds and didn’t need to cook in batches :)

Whole steamed chicken

Steaming a whole chicken is not only healthier than roasting but also tastier! Steam your chicken for really tender chicken that will be perfect for dinner or shred the chicken to use in a salad or sandwiches.
